Can Green Aventurine Go in Sun or Salt?

Can Green Aventurine go in Water, Sun, or Salt

Aventurine is a stone with miraculous healing powers for both physical and mental peace. It is actually a form of translucent quartz and contains different mineral inclusions that impart color to the stone.

These mineral inclusions are also responsible for ‘aventurescence’, a phenomenon that creates a glistening effect in the stone.

The most commonly found mineral impurity in aventurine is fuchsite, a green mica rich in chromium. Therefore, the most widely found color in aventurine stones is green. Other impurities such as hematite or muscovite produce pink, orange, red, grey, or silver varieties.

Anyway, we should probably get started with our main question.

Can Green Aventurine go in Water, Sun, or Salt

Chemical Composition of Aventurine

I know you’re not here to learn about the composition of an Aventurine; rather your concern is its behavior in water, sun, and salt. But learning about the components of a stone is crucial to be able to understand its interaction with other things.

Aventurine is a form of quartz with a silicon dioxide base combined with various mineral inclusions that impart a distinct color to the stone.

Aventurine is at 6.5-7 on Mohs Hardness Scale which means it is not a fragile stone. It is fairly hard and can endure most environmental factors.

Generally, stones with a Moh’s Hardness of 5 or less than 5 are considered fragile and water-soluble. Green Aventurine is not one of them so the question is:

Can Green Aventurine go in the Sun?

No, it is not safe to put green aventurine out in the sun. Aventurine belongs to the quartz family and is one of the many stones that fade under the sun.

While many stones have the ability to recharge themselves under sunlight, aventurine is not one of them. It can quickly lose its color under direct sunlight. A stone losing its color does not always mean that it has lost its energies. You can still use it.

However, if you do not want to mess with the appearance of your stone then, try not to put it out in the sun.

Generally, it is not recommended to put any translucent or transparent crystals under direct sunlight. Opaque crystals are pretty much sunlight resistant but may still lose color over time. In fact, no stone should be kept in the sun for more than 12 hours at a time.

Can Green Aventurine go in Salt?

No, it’s not recommended to put green aventurine in salt. Salt is abrasive in nature which is why it is not recommended to put the stones and crystals in salt for a long time. It can react with the elements of the stone, in this case, aventurine, and may cause it to lose its properties.

But at the same time, salt or salt water can be used to cleanse green aventurine. However, make sure that you do not put the aventurine in salt for a long time.

To cleanse your aventurine crystal, leave it in a bowl of salt for 4 to 5 hours, and then, dispose of the salt. Some people also recommend keeping it in salt for 3 days but I’d recommend you to stay on the safe side and not leave it in salt for more than a day.

Can Green Aventurine go in Water?

Green aventurine can go in the water. However, it is not recommended to put green aventurine in water for a long time. It is a considerably hard stone so it can withstand water to a good extent.

If your green aventurine gets wet, it is not much of a problem because it is not a water-soluble stone so slight interaction with water shouldn’t be a big deal. You can even wash the stone underwater without any issue. And then just dab the moisture away from the stone with the help of a soft cloth. But do not try soaking your stone in water for a long time. This may result in permanent damage to the appearance of the stone.

Stone may Turn Yellowish

Soaking green aventurine in water for a long time may cause it to lose color, turn yellow, or even rust, at times. While aventurine itself is not water-soluble, the mineral inclusions in the stone such as fuchsite can negatively react with water and cause the stone to permanently change its color.

Cause Cracks

Almost every stone out there comes with cracks that are not visible to the naked eye but can be seen at a micro-level. These cracks can store a lot of water in them and over a period of time, the cracks grow bigger. And eventually, cause the stone to break.

Harms the finish of the stone

Most market-available stones are buffed with oils or polish in order to enhance the appearance of the stone and give it a fine finish.

And that means, that when you soak an aventurine in water, it is going to lose its shine and consequently, look dull and rough.
