The thirst for finding the most prized diamonds and bespoke wedding/engagement rings is hard to quench. It’s no secret that most of us are always in search of something better, and this quest becomes even harder when you have strong competitors in the market.
We’ll be talking about two such strong competitors that produce dazzling diamond rings; With Clarity and James Allen. One is no less than the other, and the competition between the two is going to be cutthroat. That’s what I’d like to assume for now.
But of course, there’s going to be a lot of scrutiny from my side, and then, I’ll let you be the judge to decide who’s better for your big day!
Before we start off with the actual review, I think plunging into a bit of the back story of both these companies will be a good idea.
Clarity is a name that emerged not so long ago. In fact, they’re just a beginner in the diamond marketplace. This jewelry brand came into being when two people decided to marry each other and failed to find the ring of their dreams.
And Shah and Elisha, the founders of With Clarity, started off with a small desk in Manhattan. And today, they are one of the fastest-growing engagement ring companies. With only four years into the business, they’ve built a significant reputation as an online jewelry store.
In contrast to With Clarity, James Allen has been in the market for quite a long time. Founded in 2006, James Allen has managed to maintain a glorious reputation for over a decade now.
They are well known for their large variety of conflict-free diamonds, with a 360-degree display of each on their online store. In recent years, James Allen has grown to become one of the most well-known online jewelry stores, with a loyal clientele all over the world.
Since both James Allen and With Clarity are online-only stores, your shopping experience will be based entirely on their websites. It’s, therefore, essential to understanding how their websites work.
Clarity’s website is something I’d not like to rave about. The website is pretty average, at least; that’s what my initial impression was by looking at their home page. It needs to be more welcoming and engaging for customers, and I believe it lacks organization.
But anyway, let’s move ahead. The filtering options at With Clarity are good enough to make up for my previous remarks. You can specify the stone type, color, shape, caratage, metal, and price as you fancy. And I guess that’s what we exactly need as customers!
By visiting the James Allen website, you will get to know the reason I considered With Clarity merely mediocre. I personally really like the neat and contemporary look of James Allen’s website. The home page has everything that it takes to grab the attention of a customer.
In addition, they have the right type of filters that makes browsing for rings super convenient. You can shop by metal type or ring style. Either choose from customer-inspired rings or create your own. You can filter the diamonds based on their cut, clarity, color, and carat weight with just a few clicks.
Overall, I like the website of James Allen more than With Clarity. The latter lacks a bit in organization and design. But as far as filtering is concerned, both James Allen and With Clarity have done an amazing job.
I’d give the edge to James Allen’s website, but With Clarity is going well as well!
Both these brands have limited themselves majorly as an online-only store because that’s how people like to shop today. There’s a bit of exception in the case of James Allen. We’ll see that too.
There’s no retail location of With Clarity anywhere in the world in order to cut the costs of middlemen and physical storefronts. With Clarity crafts its rings to perfection in their New York office, but unfortunately, that location is not open for visitors.
All of their inventory is advertised and sold online. But you don’t have to worry much since they offer a home preview program that allows you to test the replicas of the rings you like. Examine the ring of your dreams at your doorstep … sounds exciting? I know!
Like With Clarity, James Allen is also based in the US, with most of its sales on the online store. But if you’re located in Washington or New York, then you’re really lucky. You can visit James Allen’s showroom for a one on one inspection of your desired rings.
You can find out their Washington and New York locations, here
Conclusively, I think not having a physical storefront is not a big deal anymore. If you’re skeptical about purchasing diamonds online, that shouldn’t be a problem with Home Previews and one on one visits offered by With Clarity and James Allen
So we have reached the most anticipated part of the article. Price range is a huge concern no matter what you’re buying. Let’s see who’s got a fairer price point out of the two.
James Allen is a big name now, and yet they don’t fail to surprise me with their prices. The ring that you find at luxury brands such as Tiffany for $5000, you’ll get that from James Allen for around 3000 bucks minus the famed name and the raved blue box, of course.
Let’s take a look at some of their gorgeous jewelry and their prices. I don’t know about you, but I love side stone settings in a ring, so I browsed through this category at James Allen. The cheapest ring is a 14k white gold engagement ring that costs around $560 and is stunning regardless.
While browsing, I also found one of the most beautifully crafted rings I’ve ever seen.
This 14k white gold ring costs $4100 and is among the most expensive rings on their website. This beauty features eight diamonds in VS1 and VS2 clarity, and hence the price is justified.
A 360-degree view of this ring can be found here.
Contrary to that, With Clarity doesn’t seem as much versatile in its price range as James Allen. For instance, the cheapest engagement ring on their website retails for $1330 with a 0.37-carat diamond in SI clarity.

This ring features 16 diamonds in total in Sl clarity grade. And there’s no doubt this ring will be turning heads. Well, of course, with that price tag, it should, duh!

All in all, I wouldn’t give preference to one over the other in terms of pricing. I don’t see much of a difference. However, With Clarity does need to have a bit more versatile price range as well as inventory.
Quality comes first, especially when you’re shopping for something as special as an engagement or wedding ring. You’ll want something that’d last a lifetime.
I can safely say that James Allen never fails to provide high-quality and expertly crafted rings and diamonds. Their rings are made with the help of expert gemologists and are meticulously crafted to perfection.
Before you get your hands on your ring, it goes through a process of rigorous testing that makes sure that the ring is perfect for you. James Allen offers conflict-free diamonds as well as certifications of authenticity. Most of their diamonds are IGI and GIA certified, so you don’t have to worry about their genuineness.
Additionally, James Allen offers a lifetime warranty on its items, so you do not have to worry about quality. This means that you can get your rings repaired or maintained free of cost any time you want (Terms and Conditions apply).
Clarity also delivers high-end quality. I know they’re expensive, but the quality they provide justifies the price. People are generally apprehensive about buying diamonds online, but I was glad to see that most of them had a super satisfactory experience at With Clarity. (Make sure you read the customer reviews at the end of this article)
To have a closer look at your desired ring, go for their Home Previews. It is, undoubtedly, one of my favorite features at With Clarity. This way, you’ll get to see all the detailing that’ll be done to your original piece. Just like James Allen, they also offer both natural and lab-created diamonds.
That’s pretty much it. I’d rather not comment more about the quality since I’d like you to read their customers’ reviews from around the world. James Allen, as well as With Clarity, are doing an excellent job at producing high-quality diamond jewelry at fair prices.
James Allen claims to offer worldwide shipping, but I’m afraid that’s not exactly the case. By looking at the list of shipping locations on their website, I found out that they offer shipping to around 22 countries, such as Spain, the UK, Sweden, UAE, Australia, Canada, Germany, etc. only.
They provide shipping through FedEx Priority, FedEx Economy, or USPS. Deliveries to P.O. box addresses are not available.
Contrary to that, With Clarity is open to orders within the US only. They provide shipping to all states within the USA but, unfortunately, not anywhere outside the United States.
James Allen boasts free shipping regardless of the package amount or the shipping locations.
They will ship your order for free anywhere around the world. And the best part is that they provide free insurance while your package is in transit. International customers, however, might have to pay additional taxes, customs, or duties.
Clarity also offers free shipping; in fact, fully insured free shipping for all orders within the US. International shipping is not available, so there are no leads about the charges either.
Overall, James Allen is a winner in terms of its shipping services because it offers deliveries to many major countries in the world, while With Clarity is limited to the US only.
A hassle-free return policy is what everybody wants, especially when you’re taking a risk with buying diamonds online.
James Allen offers a very sound and convenient return policy for its customers. If you’re not fully delighted upon receiving your order, you can return it within 30 days without any questions asked.
Also, free return shipping is only available for US and Canada orders. For international orders, a $50 return shipping would be charged.
In the case of With Clarity, orders are considered a final sale once they cross the 30-day limit. Before that, you can return or exchange any undamaged or unworn item to With Clarity in case you’re not satisfied with your purchase.
Return shipping is free since all orders are based in the US only.
In conclusion, the return policies of the two brands, in contrast, are a tie. Neither is any better or worse than the other.
James Allen offers a team of diamond experts that are non-commissioned to help you get the best guidance about your jewelry. You can have your concerns addressed by their specialized customer representative team.
You can contact a JA representative at 1-877-826-9866 at any time of the day or week. Skype them or email them at [email protected]. Other than that, you can also chat with them directly on their website and book a real-time diamond inspection.
On the other hand, With Clarity also offers you services by expert gemologists. You can reach out to them at 8442346463 Monday to Friday, 10 am-5:30 pm, or drop an email at [email protected].
The edge goes to James Allen because it offers customer service 24/7, every day of the week. But that doesn’t mean I’m unsatisfied with With Clarity’s customer support. They’re also doing a reasonably good job!

To be fair, it’s really hard for me to choose one out of these two tremendous diamond ring manufacturers. Both of them are putting equally amazing efforts into providing the best to their customers.
But a few things that may put James Allen ahead for a few of you is the fact that they offer worldwide shipping. Moreover, they have a bigger inventory and a more versatile price range.
Other than that, With Clarity and James Allen are equally competent in terms of their quality and services.
